Dreaming Grand Avenue Recording Session

Starting in November when I was briefly living in a place called Hopatcong, New Jersey and ending last month in a place called Washington Heights, I spent a good chunk of my time scoring my first feature film.

I’m extremely happy with this project, not only because it’s a really great film and I’m proud to be part of it but also because the director let me hand score it.  No software was used in the making of this score which is very unusual in the film world these days.

This is my first time scoring a “talkie” so it was definitely a challenge but the film has minimal sound effects overall so a huge percentage of what you hear is my music and, most exciting of all, we’re recording the score with live musicians.  In T-minus six hours I’ll be at the Music Institute of Chicago, (located in Lake Forest,) to work with the ensemble Lakeshore Rush to record 40 some-odd minutes of music in a five hour session.

Quick synopsis: the film is about a man and woman who meet in dreams and then eventually in real life where they unfortunately find out they actually have nothing in common.  Kidding!  They fall in love.  I don’t know yet when the film releases but stay tuned!
